Tom, Matthias – Studio Opdenakker

Studio Opdenakker is a collaboration between two brothers, Tom and Matthias Opdenakker. They are both graduates from the Sint-Lucas (LUCA) School of Arts in Ghent, the city they were raised in and inspired by. Studies in Fine Arts and Interior Design have resulted in a dynamic interaction between their creative ideas. Because they share a similar vision and passion about art & design, they decided to work together.

Their work varies from furniture to sculptures, graphic designs to installations and audiovisual projects. With a conceptual approach they try to reproduce reality in an abstract manner, often exploring the boundaries between aesthetics and functionality. Through a considerate choice for materials and techniques they aim to offer a twisted perspective on everyday life, examining the possibilities of banality, taking common things out of context to influence the general expectation of the spectator.
