Bram Kerkhofs

BRAM KERKHOFS (° 1977) is a Belgian furniture designer balancing between art and design. Through his growing oeuvre he investigates new forms and methods to challenge the functionality and flexibility of a piece of furniture.

Trained as a goldsmith, he is fascinated by connections, hinges, knots and connections and especially by the functional possibilities they provide, from which his fascination for modular systems and details grew. Mathematical principles dominate his work to visualize the often endless formal compositions via algorithms. Bram draws special attention to the relationship between construction and material and brings simplicity to complexity with a permanent alertness to the ultimate function. This time-consuming design and development process results in innovative construction systems that automatically express its signature. Many of his designs have to be seen in a larger view, as parts of a whole, in which he explores the endless possibilities for connections, combinations and variations.`
